This has to be the cutest one on the list. This Netflix original series premiered in April of this year. Its story revolves around Retsuko, an anthropomorphic red panda who isn’t happy with her place in the world. She works in accounting department of some Japanese trading firm and spends much of the day dealing with her bosses and co-workers, pushing her to feel frustrated to death. So at night, she goes to karaoke bar, drinking and singing death metal to let her emotions out. The series is quite cute as she deals with her bosses and tries to live the nightmare her life is.

Attack on the Titan is one of the most popular anime series and draws a huge fan following, mostly newcomers. This anime series presents a whole new world where humanity has taken refuge within cities protected by giant walls. Titans are there at the outskirts of the city which are, giant humanoid that eat humans without any reason. The series premieres in the city of Shiganshina District, following Eren Jaeger, his adopted sister Mikasa and their friend Armen, who are forced to face the consequences of a brutal Titan breaching the walls of their hometown, allowing smaller Titans to plague the city. When Eren’s mother falls victim to a Titan, Eren and his friends join the Scout Regiment, the soldiers who have dedicated their lives to fight the Titans once and all. The Anime has successfully completed two seasons, though only season one is on the service as of writing.

Castlevania is based on the video game which also has the same name. This Anime series has four episodes which is able to use its stylish approach to the material to depict an interesting story. After losing his wife to being burned at the stake of witchcraft, Count Dracula declares all the citizens of the Wallachia city to be his enemies. Then comes Trevor Belmont, a demon hunter, who starts fighting back against the Count, along with the magician Sypha and Dracula’s half son Alucard. The series is based on the third edition of the Castlevania Game, the Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. A second season which will be having eight episodes is still in production.

Death Note is considered to be the best anime series of the 2000s, and is considered to be the best starter if you are new to the Anime world. Death Note features high school student Light Yagami, who finds a notebook outside the grounds of his high school. He also finds a note that claims that the book can kill anyone whose name is written on the pages. He tests the book and finds that the powers are real. He is joined by a Shinigami named Ryuk, the original owner of the book. The Light decides to get rid the world of evil by using the book. The series has 37 episodes and all are available on the Netflix.

It is based on a novel series written by Satoshi Wagahara. It is a fantasy-comedy series produced back in 2013 and has 13 episodes. The series begin with Satan and his followers in an alternate dimension. Accompanied by one of his four generals, the Alciel, Satan jumps into a portal leading away from Ente Isla, the civilisation he attempted to take over but was defeated. The portal dumps Satan and Alcel into modern day Japan in the form of humans and without any magic. The two gain new identities, find an apartment and take part time jobs at McRognalds, a fast food restaurant. Followed through the portal by Emelia, the three of them must learn to adapt themselves to their surroundings for survival.

  1. Devilman Crybaby

This is based on a manga Devilman that originally used to run in the 1970s. The show features Akira Fudo and his best friend Ryo Asuka, who tells Akira that an ancient race of demons has returned to Earth to take over humanity. Ryo believes that the only way to defeat the demons and stop them from takin over the world is to fight fire by fire. He suggests Akira to fuse with a demon to gain their powers. When the demon Amon fails to possess Akira’s body properly, Akira gains control over his powers and becomes a Devilman, possessing the powers of Amon but still retaining the human soul of Akira. The series has ten episodes and is considered to be one of the better ones.

The Durarara is an adaptation of the light novel series of the same name and was originally premiered in 2010. The show revolves around a group of people around Ikebukuro, the entertainment and commercial district inside Tokyo. When Mikado visits Ikebukuro for his high schooling with his childhood friend Masaomi, he finds himself in over his head when he spots one of the most popular legends on his very first day, the Black Rider. He is a headless creature who rides his jet black motorcycle around the city at night. The Ikebukuro city is filled with rumours and warnings of the anonymous gangs roaming the streets. Mikado and his new friends must find a way to band together, avoiding strangers like the violent Shizuo Heiwajima and the mysterious street gang The Dollars. The Durarara!! and all three seasons of the sequel Durarara!! x2 are streaming on the Netflix.

Fairy Tale is also adapted from the manga series with the same name. Fairy Tale is set in a fictional land of Earth-land where wizards and magic run rampant across the world. The plot starts with a novice wizard Lucy Heartfilia joining the guild of Natsu Dragneel, a member of the Fairy Tale wizards’ guild. Natsu is searching for Igneel, a dragon. He is joined by his cat-like partner Happy and other fellow wizards Gray Fullbuster and Erza Scarlet. The guild of these five must journey outside of their comfort zone to attempt a forbidden S-class mission to save Galuna island and to fill their pockets. There are 270 episodes of the series with 7 seasons, but the Netflix provides you with only one season with episodes from 1 to 48.

This Anime is the second adaptation of the popular manga Fullmetal Alchemist, which was premiered in 2003. Brotherhood follows the two brothers, the Edward and the Alphonse Eric, living in a remote village with their mother. When she decides, the two brothers decide to revive her using Alchemy, which will cost them Alphonse’s body and Edward’s left leg. Edward, sacrifices his right arm to bring back his mother back to life using suit of armor. Both the original series and the Brotherhood are streaming on Netflix

The 32nd film in the Godzilla franchise and the first ever animated feature, Planet of the Monsters is a Netflix original series. It starts back on 1999, the era when large monsters begin appearing all over the planet. Humanity is forced to evacuate the earth when the plan to defeat Godzilla with Mechagodzilla fails. The film features the aftermath of the decision, including mutiny, conflicts of religion, and mutation of earth, all thanks to the existence of Godzilla over many years. The film is available in Japanese with English subtitles and in English dubbing.

He attends high school on an island outside the city, and usually gets along with everyone he meets in his day to day life. While running an errand for one of his classmates, he gets in trouble when a local gang, HOMRA clan, starts chasing him. He’s saved by Kuroh Yatogami. Shiro is threatened by Kuroh’s sword and presented with video evidence of a man who looks like Shiro and is involved in murder of another person. Shiro is framed for a murder he didn’t commit, Shiro must go on the run to clear his name.

This Anime has currently three titles streaming on Netflix. The first one, Little Witch Academia is created as a part of the Young Animator’s Training Project in Japan in 2013. The series gained a lot of popularity, thus allowing them to receive a full order in 2016 for a 25 episodes first season, which is currently streamed as Netflix Originals. The show features Luna Nova Academy, a school of young witches and follows a student named Akko Kagari as she begins her training to match levels with her idol, Shiny Chariot.

Miss Hokusai is based on the 1980s manga which is beautifully adapted into an hour and half long feature film in 2015. This film features the episodes between the lives of O-Ei and her father Tetsuzo back in the 1800s as painters from Japan come to visit. The O-Ei is presented as a talented artist who helps Tetsuzo with his artwork, including assisting to fix a painting of a Japanese dragon that was damaged on the night before it was to be delivered. The film also follows O-Ei during her visit to her blind half-sister, whom her father refuses to visit due to her blindness and his fear of disease. This 90 minute stretched feature film is streaming on the Netflix.

This Anime series is the adaptation of the popular Mushishi manga. Mushi-Shi follows a world where ghostly organisms are called Mushi and they hover around perception of humanity. This anime is set in between the periods of Edo and Meiji periods. This anime is told as an anthology, instead of following a single character or series of characters, making it easy to jump between episodes without having to explain too much about what happened in the past.

It is also a Netflix original anime series set in the titular fictional city. The six episode first season shows Kaz Kaan, a rich young Magistocrat and his mecha butler Charles. He tries to balance the life of a rich, melancholic adolescent with his demon-hunting responsibilities as governed by his Aunt Agatha, followed by a breakup with Cathy, an investment banker. The show’s second season hasn’t been confirmed yet, buy Koenig has said the show is still alive.

The film features the protagonist of the game, the Makoto Yumi as he arrives to a new town and unlocks his ability to use his persona to fight enemies. The latest season of the long-running series to appear on Netflix, Sun & Moon places Ash and his friends in the tropical region of Alola. If you’re following the series since the premiere in 1990s, you’ll notice a new makeover given to Ash. All of the 43 episodes of Sun & Moon are available on Netflix, along with the previous seasons XY and XYZ, the original Indigo League and several of the Pokémon films.

This is a 2011 anime series in the magical girl genre. The one season long story revolves around a group of female middle school students in the fictional city of Mitakihara, Japan. Once Madoka Kaname and her sister Sayaka Miki encounter a small creature named Kyubey, who offered the firls the ability to go magical as long as they are willing to fight the witches. When Madoka and Sayaka, while considering the deal, meet upperclassman Mami Tomoe, they agreed to follow her on a witch hunt to make sure that they can handle the responsibilities. Only one season of the series is aired, but three films have been created: Beginnings; Eternal; and Rebellion. Both the series and the three films are available on Netflix.

This series follows the third princess of the Kingdom of Liones, Elizabeth. She is on the hunt for the Seven Deadly Sins which is a group of Holy Knights who were disbanded after the kingdom was overthrown. Since then, they have gone missing. She gets the help of Meliodas and Hawk, an original member of the Seven Deadly Sins and their ex-captain, to reassemble the remaining members of the crew in order to fight back against the corrupt Holy Knights and take the kingdom back. Season 1 and a four-part middle chapter, entitled as Signs of Holy War are streaming on Netflix with the second season yet to premiere on Netflix.

The Silver Spoon series, being based on the manga of the same name, follows Yuugo Hachiken, a high school student from Sapporo attending Ooezo Agricultural High School in Hokkaido. Adapted from the Japanese novels written by Kana AKatsuki, Violet Evergarden follows the titual character, a former soldier returning to the Leiden city following the conclusion of the war and the loss of her arms. A former colonel presents Violet with the option to work for him in the CH postal company, a private mail service that also offers ghostwriters for those who are unable to publish their thoughts into journals or letters. She requests to join them after watching Auto Memory Dolls-the ghostwriters-in action, and in turn must learn to be a human again. The complete first season is streaming on Netflix.

It is the story of Kosei Arima, a former child prodigy who gained recognition when he was younger for his talent of playing piano, getting the nickname, “Human Metronome” for his impeccable mechanical accuracy. Everything changes for Kosei when her mother dies and he is unable to piano in his grief. Then two years later, Kosei meets a girl named Kaori, his classmate and a talented violinist who brings back Kosei to the world of music he used to love so much. She shows him that together, he can learn to play unrestricted and unfettered from the mechanics and rules of music he had known so well as a child.

This five season long anime series arrived in United States from 2001 to 2006 and is based on the story of Yugi Moto, a young boy who owns Millennium Puzzle, an ancient artefact, gifted him by his grandfather. After the completion of the puzzle, he unlocked the soul of the man trapped within it. The show starts as Pegasus, the creator of a popular duelling card game known as Duel Monsters, traps Yugi’s grandfather’s soul in a card, which forces him to compete in a tournament. All the five seasons with 224 episodes are streaming on Netflix.
